Reading a brand before you design it

Before any design, there is a quieter piece of work I call the read. It is the part where you work out what the brand actually is, before deciding what it should look like.

It is easy to skip. A logo is tangible, a mood board is fun, and a homepage feels like progress. But design built on a fuzzy position is just a well set version of a shrug.

Clarity upstream is what lets the work downstream be confident.

The read is small on purpose. Who is this for. What do they already believe. What is the one thing a stranger has to understand in the first few seconds. What do competitors own that this brand should not try to take.

None of that produces a deck to file away. It produces a brief the rest of the work is set to, so the identity, the words, and the site all point the same direction.

Work with the studio.

Bragi takes on a few projects at a time. If it feels like a fit, start with a short conversation.
