Design systems that let a site grow

Most sites look their best on launch day. The problems start later, when a team adds a landing page, then a campaign, then a section nobody planned for, and the careful thing slowly turns into a patchwork.

A design system is the answer, though the phrase gets used loosely. Here it means a small set of components with real rules: how they space, how they behave, how they combine. New pages are built from parts that already agree with each other.

The goal is a site that can grow without a designer standing over it.

It only works if the system is honest. A component that is documented but never used is decoration. A rule that everyone quietly breaks is not a rule. So the set stays small enough to hold in your head and strict enough to trust.

Done well, the craft survives the handover. The tenth page looks like it belongs to the first, because it was made from the same pieces.

Work with the studio.
