Scroll as composition: motion that earns its place
Scroll is the one input almost everyone uses. It is patient, continuous, and completely under the reader's control. That makes it a good thing to compose with, and a very easy thing to overdo.
The question I ask about any movement is plain. Does it help someone understand the page, or is it there to look busy? Most decorative animation fails that test. It moves because the tools make movement cheap, not because the content asked for it.
Motion should carry meaning, or it should not run.
When it earns its place, motion is compositional. A heading resolves as you arrive. A set of words reorganizes to show a relationship. The reader is doing the scrolling, so the timing belongs to them, not to a fixed loop.
Where I choose stillness
Plenty of the best pages barely move. A long read wants calm, not choreography. So the rule is not more motion or less motion. It is motion where it clarifies, and stillness everywhere else.
