Internal Tools
Purpose built tools for one team and one job. The panel, the queue, the checker, or the small utility that replaces a spreadsheet everyone has learned to tolerate.
Who it is for
Teams running their operation out of a shared spreadsheet. Anyone paying for a platform to use one tenth of it.
The problem it solves
The tool that would save your team an hour a day usually does not exist commercially, because it is specific to how you work. It is also usually a few days of building.
What I do
- 01Watch the work happen before designing anything.
- 02Build the smallest tool that removes the worst step.
- 03Connect it to the systems already holding your data.
- 04Keep it plain enough that somebody can maintain it later.
What you end up with
- A working internal tool your team uses.
- The source, documented, in your account.
- A short note on extending it.
